FOOD

We have a rough idea on how many we are catering for and so now it is time to plan the menu!

It’s also the time to double check any dietary requirements.. i.e vegetarians, vegans, gluten free, diabetes and any allergies just in case. Parent’s will expect their children to be fed.. even if it is just snack. The best way to work out how much food you’ll need is to consider how much each child will want to eat.. just multiply this by the number attending and there you go. Simple..  or is it?

Hot or Cold?

If you have young guests coming you may find hot food gets cold before it is all eaten and so food that can be eaten cold like pasta, fruit skewers and sandwiches are great options.

Reducing waste

You may experience much of your party food getting wasted. Especially if you have a buffet style spread. A popular idea is to have Happy Meal style pack lunches for the children. If you fancy making a personalised stamp you could add names, motifs or helium balloons to each lunch pack. This is also a good way to make sure any special diets are being followed. Again when you have very young children i’d strongly recommend providing food that is bite sized as otherwise expect half eaten snacks everywhere!

Other food options

Another nice idea is to get your picnic blankets down and have a sit down spread. If you don’t fancy cooking you can take the children to a restaurant or fast food place. Catering companies win for the super easy factor however they can be pricey. With older children bulk cooking is a cheap and filling option which on the plus side can be partly made in the run up to the party. One last thought on food is that supermarkets do pre-made bulk sandwiches and snacks especially made for parties like yours.
